MELBOURNE, MAY 2026: Melbourne’s renowned independent theatre group Theatrical Inc has announced the cast for its upcoming staging of the smash hit musical Bring It On The Musical. The production is an electrifying, high flying adaption of the beloved cult film, scheduled for a strictly limited run at Melbourne's National Theatre this July.
The stage musical, which builds on the famous movie franchise, dives into the intense environment of high-stakes all star competitive cheerleading while examining the intricacies of teenage identity, prejudice and female competition. The story follows champion teen cheerleader Campbell, who finds herself at a crossroads when she is redistricted to the rival high school, Jackson High. In a bid for victory, she joins forces with their fearless dance crew to compete against her old squad at the Cheerleading Nationals.
Boasting a prestigious creative lineage of Broadway's finest, the show features a high-energy score collaboration between Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Tom Kitt (American Idiot, Jagged Little Pill) and a witty book by Tony Award winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q). This powerhouse creative team led the original Broadway production to earn 2013 Tony Award nominations for both Best Musical and Best Choreography.
Following an extensive search that saw over 200 performers audition, Producer Andrew Gyopar has confirmed a stellar Australian cast of 30. The cast features a powerful mix of quadruple-threat actor-singer-dancers and world champion cheerleaders, ready to bring this Broadway hit to life.
The production features acclaimed emerging performer Emily McDougall in the challenging lead role of Campbell, Truman High School's cheer captain. McDougall joins the cast following her celebrated portrayal of Elle Woods in the critically acclaimed Theatrical Inc 2025 production of Legally Blonde. Playing opposite her is rising talent Alyssa Jandayan as Danielle, the tenacious leader of the Jackson High dance crew. Currently pursuing full-time musical theatre studies at Transit Dance, Jandayan previously delivered a standout performance in Theatrical's 2025 staging of School of Rock.
Executive Producer Andrew Gyopar said, “Bring It On The Musical is another opportunity for Theatrical Inc to champion local talent and create pathways for performers to grow, collaborate and challenge themselves. I love productions that bring different creative communities together, and Bring It On The Musical does exactly that. One of the most exciting parts of this production is showcasing some extraordinary competitive cheer athletes from Melbourne, many of whom are stepping onto a musical theatre stage for the very first time. Their athleticism, discipline and performance energy bring something genuinely unique and thrilling to the show.”
Other cast members performing principal roles include Zade Nabole as Twig, Sho Tochigi as Cameron, Jenna Mole as Bridget, Fergus Rann as Steven, Taylor-Anne Bright as Eva, Flynn Hunter as Randall, Elle Fenelon as Kylar, Cara Mia Honan as Skylar, Yurina Kutsukake as Nautica and Ari Rego in the hilarious role of La Cienega one of Broadway’s earliest teenage transgender characters.
The ensemble cast includes Gemma Rushton, Emma Pervan, Sahana Paine, Melissa Pritsis, Hayley Fields, Hugo Barbey, Lucy Kitching, Victoria Pickard, Alyson Kin, Taliyah Radio, Imogene White, Trinity Kelly, Erin Davis, Georgia Kemp, Maria Ospina, Abbey Duckworth, Shari Pieris and Vini Ramesh.
Bring It On The Musical is bold, explosive and unapologetically fun, a full throttle celebration of ambition, identity and finding your crew. Get ready to feel the beat, raise the stakes and bring it.
Bring It On The Musical will play for 6 nights only at The National Theatre in St Kilda from July 11 to July 19. Tickets are now on sale at https://booktickets.com.au/bringiton/
